Produce Buyer

The Produce Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing the inventory of fresh fruits, vegetables, and other produce items. This role requires a deep understanding of the produce industry, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to ensure the highest quality products are available for our customers at competitive prices. The Produce Buyer will work closely with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams to maintain strong relationships and optimize procurement processes.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 4:00 pm

Location: Ephrata, PA (On Site)

  • Sourcing and Procurement: Identify and source high-quality fresh produce, negotiating with local and international suppliers to secure the best prices and delivery schedules.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and trends to ensure the timely and efficient replenishment of products, avoiding overstocking or stockouts.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all purchased produce meets the company's quality standards, including freshness, appearance, and packaging.
  • Supplier Relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers while actively seeking new suppliers to expand product offerings and improve cost efficiency.
  • Market Analysis: Stay informed about current market trends, pricing fluctuations, and seasonal changes in the produce industry.
  • Cost Management: Manage purchasing budgets and implement cost-saving strategies without compromising on quality.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Sales, Logistics, and Operations teams to forecast demand, plan promotions, and ensure the timely delivery of produce.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all food safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in purchasing or buying, particularly in the produce industry.
  • Proficient negotiation skills and experience with vendor management.
  • Knowledge of market trends, seasonal products, and pricing strategies.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing market conditions.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with inventory management software or ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and certifications.
  • Experience working with both domestic and international suppliers.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced office environment with frequent communication with vendors and internal departments.
  • Occasional travel to supplier facilities or trade shows may be required.
